Paducah has been named one of the world’s most intelligent urban areas by National Geographic.
“The 2014 Traveler 50: World's Smartest Cities” ranks the town 5th overall amongst the likes of Paris and Rome.
Requirements chiefly include a well-developed culture and a sense of community. National Geographic Consultant Ian MacFarlane says a city must have a "heart and soul."
Last fall, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated Paducah as a prominent city of crafts and folk art.
Fellow Kentucky metropolis Lexington also made the cut, coming in at 24th.
