Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin announced on Tuesday a $100,000 grant to connect the Paducah Greenway Trail to McCracken County’s trail system.

According to the Department For Local Government, the Recreational Trails Program funding will help construct a pedestrian bridge over Perkins Creek.

DLG Commissioner Sandra K. Dunahoo said the bridge will improve walkability and hopes it will encourage families to be active and spend more time outdoors.

The bridge will be approximately 110 feet long and will cross the creek northwest of Stuart Nelson baseball fields. The project also includes landscaping and signage.

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
