Southern Illinois University President Glenn Poshard says he will forego the final year of his contract and retire at the end of the upcoming school year.
Poshard informed the SIU Board of Trustees of his decision Thursday morning.
Poshard began his tenure as the university’s president in 2006, after a decade in the U.S. House of Representatives and an unsuccessful run for governor.
Poshard’s retirement is effective June 30, 2014.
