Sullivan University’s Mayfield Learning Center Expected To Open In Two Weeks

A learning center in Mayfield is on the cusp of completion following renovations.

Sullivan University is a for-profit, private university based in Louisville. Community Partnerships Vice President David Keene said renovations are expected to wrap up on Saturday and the facility is slated to open in two weeks. He said the university feels Mayfield needs a higher education institution.

Keene said Mayfield used be home to Mid-Continent University but it closed in 2014.

“It seemed to be contributing to the local economy and so forth and whenever that other institution had to close down it left a void there and so we’re hoping to fill that void,” Keene said.

He said Sullivan University hopes to help Mayfield and surrounding counties by training the local workforce. He said classes offered at the facility will be dictated by the wants and needs of the students who enroll.

The learning center will offer courses online and at the facility on a quarter system. Keene said the next quarter start is at the end of March. The learning center is limited in the amount of courses it can offer onsite, so students will be completing majority of coursework online.

Keene said the facility will offer computer and internet access to students who don’t have the resources elsewhere.
