Tennessee Sheriff's Deputy Fatally Shot; Suspect At Large

A Tennessee sheriff's deputy was fatally shot during an altercation in a city outside of Nashville on Wednesday. Police are searching for the suspect and believe him to be “armed and dangerous.”

Authorities say the reward has increased to $7,500 for information leading to the arrest of a man sought by police in the fatal shooting of a Tennessee sheriff's deputy.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives helped increase the reward for information on Steven Joshua Wiggins.

Authorities have said the Dickson County deputy was shot and killed early Wednesday after a responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle. They have not released the deputy's name.

Earlier: Authorities identified the suspect as Steven Wiggins, who is described as a white male with balding brown hair.

Authorities said the sheriff's deputy was killed following a traffic stop early Wednesday near Dickson- a town about 45 minutes south of Clarksville and west of Nashville.

 

The Calloway County Sheriff’s office said on Facebook they are aware of the suspect but do not believe him to be in their area.
