UTM Professor Selected to Governor’s Education Advisory Team

UTM Office of University Relations

A UT Martin professor has been appointed to review Tennessee’s math standards. Governor Bill Haslam announced that Stephanie Kolitsch will serve on the Mathematics Standards Review and Development Committee.

Haslam has asked The State Board of Education to appoint the Mathematics Standards Committee along with an English Language Arts Standards Review and Development Committee, each with three advisory teams. Kolitsh will lead the Mathematics Advisory Team for grades 9-12.

Kolitsch is professor of mathematics and director of the West Tennessee STEM Center for Learning at U-T Martin. Each advisory team will review Tennessee’s current standards and make recommendations to their committee, which will then propose changes to the State Board of Education.

UT Martin Chancellor Tom Rakes is pleased with Kolitsch’s selection and recognized her previous work in representing the university and mathematics education.

“We’re proud to have Dr. Kolitsch involved in this important statewide work,” Rakes said. “She has represented the university well in other review efforts and will be a valuable resource person for Governor Haslam and Tennessee education.”
