INDEPENDENT
PRODUCERS
How
WKMS Works with Independent Producers
WKMS
invites independent speakers/producers to voice opinions,
insights, expertise, and creative writing segments for air.
We
believe that many voices enrich our programming, and that
we must strive towards a consistent quality level of any
content produced in WKMS studios.
Our
goal is to meet or exceed the production standards of National
Public Radio. In order to do this, we believe that any contributor
must understand the following:
--
Both the content and the production value of the material
offered by a volunteer speaker on WKMS will be subject to
the same review given staff producers of information programming.
--
The information programming coordinator will first review
prospective segments to make sure they follow the content
guidelines attached.
--
The program director has the authority to accept, reject,
or request revisions for second review. WKMS will provide
production assistance to all prospective producers.
--
The program director will determine which segments will
air during "Morning Edition," "Meridian,"
or "All Things Considered." Content with "softer"
impact will most regularly air during "Meridian."
Segments are guaranteed at least two airings.
--There
will be a two-day lead-time between recordings of prospective
segments and their airdate to allow review to occur.
--
WKMS will place transcripts of independent speaker/producer
segments on the website wkms.org as follows:
a.
Edited transcripts will be provided via e-mail to:
b. Transcripts will be available on the website for 1 month,
and subsequently listeners may request text copies by calling
WKMS.
c. Transcripts will carry the same identifying script that
the producer provided for air.
