Friday 11 am - noon & Sunday 6-7 pm
Most Americans of the Baby Boomer generation grew up in the Fifties, or want to think they did. The Eisenhower Hour on WKMS is for them. Outwardly, this was a time of comfort, conformity, economic stability, and family values - an era when the "pursuit of happiness" promised in the Declaration of Independence seemed an achievable objective for life. The Eisenhower Hour takes a fun and nostalgic look at the Fifties by bringing the past into the present and putting such popular culture subjects as music, lifestyles, fads, the written word, entertainment, celebrities, and politics in context of their time and place. The inspiration for the weekly playlist is the rotation that would be found on a jukebox or in one of the original Top-40 radio formats, a combination of Pop, Novelty, Country and Western, Rhythm and Blues, Instrumentals, and early Rock 'n' Roll. The guiding principle for selecting music is what was popular at the time. Dr. Bob Lochte, producer of the award-winning Christmas in the Fifties, is the host and producer of The Eisenhower Hour. "I've been developing this concept for about ten years," Lochte said. "It took me that long to collect the background material for the show." email:
