It's National Poetry Month on WKMS!




Mondays at noon in April on WKMS catch Poetry Minutes--Original Works from Children in Western Kentucky.

WKMS and MSU’s Teacher Quality Institute are "getting the word out" about National Poetry Month by featuring original poetry written by children in western Kentucky - grades 3 through 8. The series, "Poetry Minutes," was spearheaded by Constance Alexander.

What is National Poetry Month?

Inaugurated by the Academy in April 1996, National Poetry Month (NPM) brings together publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, schools, and poets around the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. - Poets.org.



Poet, playwright, fiction writer, newspaper columnist and independent radio producer, Constance Alexander serves as Arts & Humanities Faculty Scholar at MSU's Teacher Quality Institute. Her work has won awards and honors from the Kentucky Press Association, Newspaper Association of America, Kentucky Arts Council, and more.

We celebrate by starting the month with local writer and commentator Constance Alexander and her story about the year she became a poet.
