WKMS Community Correspondents Nevada Kennedy and J.J. Leatherman have spent the last few days on the ground at the 25th annual American Quilter's Society's show and contest. They put together this audio post card. J.J Leatherman begins this bird's eye view of the quilt show with a conversation with Mr. Maurice O'Keefe who relocated to Paducah three years ago the main reason his family chose Paducah: the quilt show.

When Paducah officials began preparing for the twenty-fifth annual American Quilter's Society Show and Contest, they weren't sure they'd have beds for the over four hundred quilters who'd booked rooms at the Executive Inn. But even with the progress of renovations up in the air, Paducah Visitor's Bureau Director Mary Hammond was sure no one would go without a place to stay. Hammond had confidence in a program that has been finding local lodging for quilters as long as there has been a show in Paducah. Angela Hatton reports.

The 25th Annual American Quilter's Society Show and Contest will open to the general public tomorrow after months of uncertainty. The status of a loan for renovations to the Executive Inn and Convention Center had put show's future in jeopardy. But as Executive Director of the Paducah Convention and Visitor Bureau Mary Hammond tells community correspondent J.J. Leatherman, the week ahead looks bright.
"You know that's why when people ask us, 'But oh, what about the downturn in the economy?' People will travel if they have a passion. And quilting is, as you know, everyone around here, by looking at the license plates and seeing how far they've come they have a passion for quilting."
Hammond says tomorrow visitors can view the all 24 quilts that have won best in show throughout the contest's history. The event continues through Saturday.
