WKMS is a 100,000 watt non-commercial educational (NCE) public radio station licensed to Murray State University and supported by MSU, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, program underwriters and contributing listeners. WKMS reaches a 27 county listening area in five states including the towns of: Murray, Paducah, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Mayfield and Benton in Kentucky as well as Paris, Tennessee, and Metropolis, Illinois.

From sign-on May 11, 1970, WKMS has grown from broadcasting a few hours a day from a classroom at Murray State to a 24 hour service offering the region's most comprehensive news, music and information variety to an estimated weekly audience of over 20,000 listeners*.
