The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is keeping tight lipped on plans to restrict boat access near hydroelectric power plants on the Cumberland River and its tributaries. The Corps released a statement today saying they would not give details until the plan is finalized. Spokeswoman Amy Redmond says the public will get more information later this month.

Lawmakers from several Mississippi River states are meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers today to address the waterway's critically low levels between St. Louis and Cairo .

The Army Corps of Engineers’ Memphis District and six Indian tribes signed an agreement Tuesday about the disposition and handling of human remains. Corps archaeologists have identified nearly 250 archaeological sites in the 11,000 acres of the floodway that are most susceptible to flood damage. Dr. Robert Dunn is an archaeologist with the Corps. He says his organization consulted with tribal leaders to reach an agreement that calls for the respectful treatment of human remains.

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decision to limit Missouri River's flow into the Mississippi has representatives of the barge industry worried. The Corps plans to cut the amount of water discharged at Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota by 30 percent because of concerns of another drought in the Midwest next summer.
