The War of 1812 is sometimes called the second war for independence. It’s also called the forgotten war, as it was overshadowed fifty years later by a much bloodier war. Kentuckians were an important part of the 1812 war effort. The Commonwealth contributed more to the casualty list than any other state. Soldiers buried in western Kentucky fought in campaigns from Canada to New Orleans, with a few under the command of then-General and future president Andrew Jackson. Angela Hatton went searching for their graves.

Cuts to Kentucky's judicial system will impact a program designed to reduce recidivism among those convicted of drug related crimes. Chief Justice John D. Minton made the decision to implement three furlough days for judicial employees over the coming calendar year in addition to cuts in other judicial programs. 

Dr. Robert Tucker is the new Chief Medical Officer at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Tucker will serve solely part time as a liaison between physicians and hospital administrative staff whereas in the past the CMO was a practicing physician nominated by hospital admin. Previously, Tucker served as a MCCH consultant and a CMO and medical director in northern Virginia.

Calloway County Middle School and Lone Oak High School will compete starting this weekend in the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl in the Washington, D.C., area.
