Murray State University point guard Isaiah Canaan has been named to the All-American team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches . The Murray State junior led the Racers to their 15th appearance in the NCAA tournament. Both the Sporting News and USBWA have named Canaan to their all-American squads. Canaan is also up for a number of collegiate awards, including the Wooden, Cousy and Henson awards.

A national animal rescue group wants strong punitive charges against a woman accused of animal abuse in Graves County. The Animal Rescue Corps sent a letter to Graves County Attorney, John Cunningham calling for heavy punishment of Shannon Lacewell. She stands accused of housing nearly 100 dogs in unsanitary conditions at her Wingo home. The ARC is requesting Lacewell be charged with a 2nd degree  misdemeanor  for each of the dogs found on the property in addition to a felony animal abuse charge.

Conflict and uncertainty can make life difficult for minorities in the United States.  As we’ve seen, events of the last decade have led some to be suspicious of American Moslems.  This isn’t new in our history.  During the U.S. Civil War, it was Jewish Americans who came under suspicion.  Adding to existing prejudices were broad accusations of trading with Confederates and undermining the Union.  Things came to a head in December 1862 when U.S. Major General, and future President, Ulysses S.

The Kentucky Headhunters and Exile are among the new class of Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and Museum inductees announced Tuesday in Lexington. Seven native Kentucky artists will be inducted next year. The Kentucky Headhunters, with roots in the western Kentucky community of Edmonton, shot to fame in the 1980s with hits like Dumas Walker and are still recording and performing.

Exile was formed in the early 1970s in Richmond as the Exiles, and topped the pop charts with the ballad Kiss You All Over;  the group has since found more success in the country genre.
