Lexington Attorney Files MSU Open Meetings Complaint Appeal with Office of Attorney General

Lexington Attorney Jim Deckard is appealing the denial of his open meetings complaint with the Office of the Kentucky Attorney General. Deckard alleges that the Murray State Board of Regents violated Kentucky's open meetings law when a group of five or six regents attended a social gathering and casually discussed university business.  The day following the social gathering the board held its quarterly meeting and, under the guise of other business, voted not to extend President Randy Dunn a new contract.

Curris Issues Response to Complaint of Alleged Illegal Meeting

Murray State Board of Regents Chairman Constantine Curris says, through a letter from Murray State’s legal counsel that he will discuss, at the board’s next meeting, what transpired at a social gathering for some regents the night before the board’s March meeting, but he won't nullify any votes cast by the board on the following day.

Some MSU Faculty Members Forming Union Local To Strengthen Faculty Voices

Some Murray State faculty members are in the early stages of starting a local chapter of an educators union following a Board of Regents vote against extending current president Randy Dunn’s contract.

MSU’s Faculty Senate previously issued a letter to the board supporting a new contract for Dunn.

English Professor Kevin Binfield hosted a small group of faculty members Tuesday for officer elections to form a local chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).  Binfield says forming the union may strengthen faculty voices.
