Western Kentucky’s corn and soybean crops have taken a turn for the worse. Statewide crop-reporting says one-fourth of the corn crop is in poor condition, and another third is fair.

On his Calloway County farm, Mark Paschall is getting ready for a long, dry summer. During 58 years on a farm, Paschall has seen many droughts. This one, he says, is a bad one.

Last year was Kentucky’s wettest on record going back to 1895, bringing widespread flooding to some areas last spring.
