W. Ky. Reaches "Exceptional" Drought Status

The National Drought Mitigation Center has upgraded much of western Kentucky to “exceptional drought” status. Climatologist Brian Fuchs says exceptional drought, or D4, is the highest drought level. It’s characterized by widespread crop loss and water restrictions in some places.

Currently, Stanford offers online courses on subjects such as cryptography and human-computer interaction — all free, but without credit.

Today on NPR: Now that Stanford, Harvard and other top American universities are offering free online courses, will students one day be able to get course credits and degrees online from these schools without having to pay for it? Stanford's president says his school "can see moving in that direction."

Army Corps Monitors Low Water on Ohio RIver

U. S. Army Corps of Engineers officials continue to monitor low water levels in the Ohio River. Hydraulic engineer Bryan Astifan said the river level at Cairo, Ill., is a barometer of how the Ohio River basin and the Upper Mississippi River basin is fairing in the drought.
