Slaughter Elementary School closes its doors for the last time today. The Webster County School District decided to close the school as a result of dwindling enrollment and district wide fiscal concerns.

Newsweek magazine has named the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at WKU as the nation's top high school.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is considering a funding boost for the state's public pre-kindergarten program, a move that would put him at odds with some fellow Republicans in the Legislature.

The number of college degrees awarded in the Commonwealth increased 4% this year. The Council on Postsecondary Education says a record 63,000 degrees and credentials were awarded in Kentucky for the 2011-2012 academic year.
