In a Graves County courtroom, Chief District Judge Deborah Crooks is swearing in about 20 of the newest members of the county’s Teen Court program. Graves County is one of only 25 Kentucky counties to offer the program. Teen Court allows first time juvenile offenders who admit to low level crimes to plead their case and receive a sentence from a jury made up of other teens.

To say the least, George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” has staying power. The powerful, moving oratorio is a masterpiece of Baroque music and has become a staple of holiday choral performances around the world, and in our region, since it was first performed in 1742. The Kentucky Supreme Court could rule soon on the case of a high school student charged and convicted after admitting to his school principal and the resource officer that he shared prescription pain pills.  The student says he wasn’t read his rights and that the confession shouldn’t have been used against him at trial.  The court’s ruling could change the way school administrators handle discipline problems, and we’ll bring you the details.

Every four years a large group of voters get a chance to cast their first ballot for the U.S. President. These voters were m ost likely in high school the last time a president was elected. After a big turn-out of young voters helped push President Barack Obama to victory in the 2008 election, new voters have become a major focus for this year’s campaigns. So with both sides trying to turn young adults into their next party faithful, how does this next generation of voters decide which candidate is right for them?
