Death Penalty Opponents Ask Beshear for Support

Activists with the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty have sent Governor Steve Beshear more than 1,500 postcards asking him to sign no more death warrants and get rid of the punishment. Each card calls the death penalty “a risky, arbitrary, unfair, ineffective and costly distraction from justice.”

Tax Reform Panel to Make Recommendations to Beshear

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform meets today to share its recommendations with Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear. Beshear appointed the commission earlier this year to suggest ways to simplify the tax code and generate enough revenue to meet state needs and carry Kentuckians through the recession.

Mongiardo Considers Running for Governor

Former Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo says he's considering a run to become the Commonwealth’s governor. Mongiardo is a Democrat who served under Gov. Steve Beshear during his first term. The 52-year-old Hazard physician served in the state Senate from 2001 to 2007.

Beshear's Administration Gave Away $31K in Olympic Tickets

Officials with Kentucky’s tourism department say they gave away Olympic tickets worth more than $31,000 after canceling plans to send a delegation. The state's 20 tickets were nonrefundable and couldn't easily be resold under Olympics rules. So tourism officials gave them to two British tour companies that sometimes do business in Kentucky.

Former Kentucky Official Investigated for Pressuring Employees to Donate to Beshear Campaign

A former Kentucky state official is under investigation for allegedly pressuring workers to contribute to Governor Steve Beshear’s re-election campaign.  The Courier-Journal reports the FBI and two state agencies are interviewing Department of Juvenile Justice employees about calls made in 2010 by deputy secretary Charles Geveden.
