The City of Murray and Marshall County held separate local option elections today. Murray, a city that allows liquor by the drink sales, asked residents to vote on whether or not to expand alcohol sales to allow package liquor. Marshall County residents voted on whether or not to allow alcohol sales in package stores and restaurants. 

Uncertified results are: Murray votes to go wet. Marshall County will stay dry.

Voters in Marshall County and the City of Murray head to the polls today to vote on the question of legalizing package liquor sales in their respective jurisdictions. Polls will be open in both locations until 6 p.m. We will post the returns tonight.

Absentee voting begins Thursday on Murray’s packaged alcohol vote. Calloway County Clerk Ray Coursey said registered voters who will be out of town for the July 17 referendum can come to the courthouse to cast their ballot. 

This July 17th, Murray residents will head to the polls to decide whether or not the city should go wet. That is, whether to allow the sale of alcohol within the city limits. Murray’s current alcohol status could be described as “moist”, as restaurants can sell alcoholic beverages, by-the-drink with some restrictions. Gary Pitts looked into the upcoming vote to find out about possible outcomes.

Murray will hold a local option election in July to decide whether or not to allow packaged alcohol sales within the city limits. County Judge Executive Larry Elkins says the election is scheduled for July 17th. He says the election would normally be between 60 and 90 days from the petition’s certification date, but the date had to be pushed back due to the May 22nd presidential primary. Only registered voters within the city limits of Murray are allowed to participate in the election. The group Grow Murray’s petition was certified last week by County Clerk Ray Coursey Jr.
