Eggners Ferry Replacement Span Loaded on Barges for Transport

Hall Contracting successfully moved a replacement span for the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge from an assembly area onto a barge today.  The 4-hour transfer of the 300 ton steel truss was the first step toward getting the new span moved to the bridge.

Bridge Span Will Make Trip Up River In Coming Days

Engineers are optimistic they will be able to load and move the replacement span of the Eggners Ferry Bridge  by barge on Friday or Saturday, but contractors note there are still plenty of details to work through.

Beshear to Visit West KY For Update on Eggners Ferry

Governor Steve Beshear will be in Eddyville Tuesday with an update on repair work to the Eggners Ferry Bridge. Beshear along with Chief District Engineer Jim Lefevre and Tom Roberts of Hall Contracting will be at the Lyon County Riverport Authority at 1:30.

It’s likely they’ll discuss staging for repair work on the bridge that lost a 300 foot span after a cargo ship crashed into the road deck in January.

Bridge Prep Work Nearing Completion

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are expected to finish work preparing the Eggners Ferry Bridge for repair work by early next week. Workers are replacing guard rails and removing concrete debris from the bridge deck ahead of a crew from Hall Contracting of Kentucky. Hall Contracting was hired in March to replace the 322-foot span of bridge which collapsed when the Delta Mariner cargo ship struck the bridge. KYTC spokesperson Keith Todd says the cabinet is hesitant to set dates for the repairs.
