Officials are evacuating more than two dozen homes near a train derailment that occurred two weeks ago in southwestern Jefferson County. Louisville-Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Jody Duncan says 31 homes within a half-mile of the derailment are being evacuated to allow workers to remove hazardous chemicals from some of the tanker cars.
The group managing a former Marshall County hazardous waste site is suing more than 300 companies, municipalities and universities to recoup the cost of waste removal. LWD PRP wants to force 334 others to kick in money to cover the costs of removing a variety of hazardous pollutants from the incinerator site in Calvert City.
