Kentucky 2nd District House Democrat Candidates Speak on Tax Reform

The four candidates for Kentucky’s 2nd District House seat presented their platforms in a public forum in Mayfield last night.  Democrat Kelly Whitaker spoke about how she would like to see Kentucky reform its tax code. Whitaker says the Commonwealth’s current system focuses on income and property taxes.

Today on NPR: The residents of Windsor, Ontario, say they're being invaded by an irritating sound that's emanating from outside Detroit. It's known as the "Windsor Hum" and, with U.S. officials claiming Americans can't hear it, no one seems to know who should be in charge of shutting it up.

2nd District Political Forum

Candidates for Kentucky's second district house seat meet tonight at for a political forum in Mayfield. Democrats Arthur Byrn and Kelly Whitaker and Republicans Richard Heath and Patrick Fisher are vying for retiring Representative Fred Nesler's seat. The Mayfield Graves County Chamber of Commerce hosts the free event which begins at 5:00 at the Graves Schools' Performing Arts Center at 1107 Housman Street.

Mayfield to get Air Ambulance Base

A private air ambulance service, is establishing a base in Mayfield, Kentucky. Air Evac Lifeteam  plans to open the base adjacent to the Jackson Purchase Medical Center in mid April. Officials say the post will employ between 12 and 15 people, and serve communities within a 70-mile radius of Mayfield. The subscription service operates with membership fees, providing free transport for members.

Early Morning Fire Proves Fatal

A Mayfield house fire early yesterday morning has left two people dead and one hospitalized. Police say there wasn't a working fire alarm in the home when the blaze began. 19-year-old Allison Burnett and 22 year-old Deven Trull died in the fire. Another man at the home was pulled out by neighbors and taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. His name has not yet been released and his condition is not known.
