Adult Student Testing Practices Cost Community College

Inaccurate reporting of testing scores from McCracken County’s adult education program has allowed West Kentucky Community and Technical College to get more money from the Commonwealth than it was qualified to receive. Kentucky adult education officials found student testing practices at WKCTC were not in compliance with state and federal policies and established ethical standards. Kentucky’s Adult Education agency requires the programs it funds to administer tests establishing a baseline education level teachers can plan around.

McCracken County Deputy Shoots Man with Sword, Gun

Kentucky State Police say a McCracken County sheriff’s deputy shot a man who waved a handgun and sword at him. Deputy Jared Rivera was called Saturday night to a southern McCracken County residence in response to reports the man inside was suicidal. As Rivera approached the house, he found 50-year-old Michael Lakin inside with a handgun. When the officer returned to his vehicle, Lakin appeared in the doorway with the gun and a sword. Rivera ordered him to drop the weapons, but Lakin instead came toward him.

Merger Proponents Launch Website

Paducah and McCracken County merger proponents hope a new pro-merger website will boost support for the issue. The long discussed issue is on the November ballot. Paducah McCracken United members say the site  allows citizens to access fiscal information regarding the proposed merger.
