McCracken County Inmate Missing from Work Detail

Police are looking for a McCracken County jail inmate held on theft and drug charges after he escaped from a work detail yesterday.  Kentucky State Police say 20-year-old William C. Murrell was last seen just after two Tuesday afternoon at his work detail in Paducah. He's believed to have left the area on foot.  Police say his green jail jumpsuit was found nearby, and officers are unable to give a current clothing description.  Murrell is described as black, 5-foot-10 and 152 pounds.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact state police.

McCracken County Fiscal Court Meeting 4/9

The McCracken County Fiscal Court decided last night to schedule a workshop to discuss an advisory board for the county’s animal shelter. Judge-Executive Van Newberry says the current proposal outlines a governing body of five members. The Court will hold the workshop within the next few weeks. The court also voted to allocate $12,000 toward transportation for non-public school children in the St. John’s area. Newberry says for years, the state has given money to the Court for this purpose, and it has mainly helped transport children to the St. Mary’s School System.

Tentative Merger Vote Set May 1st

The Charter County Government Commission have changed a plan for the proposed merger of Paducah and McCracken governments. Vice Chairman Tom Garrett says the changes reflect concerns residents voiced during public forums held earlier in the year. The changes clarify the role of a transitional committee appointed to speed the merger if the plan passes and moves elections for new officials from 2013 to 2014 to avoid a special election. McCracken Fiscal Court Discusses Resolution Supporting PGDP Workers

The McCracken County Fiscal Court continued discussions last night about a resolution supporting nuclear power plant workers uncompensated for work-related health problems.  Commonwealth Environmental Services Vice President Gary Vander Boegh presented commissioners with a draft resolution on the workers’ behalf a month ago.  The commissioners had several questions about the wording and content, and Judge-Executive Van Newberry says the resolution would need revision before sending it to the U.S.

Paducah-McCracken County Covention Center Corp Discusses Budget

The Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center Corporation discussed a healthy budget during the Executive Committee meeting Tuesday. The committee mulled over the center’s current cash flow and expenses in preparation for future budget workshops with city and county representatives. The corporation will submit budget requests to both governments for funds to help cover upcoming costs.

Storm Update 8:30 a.m.

Storm damage this morning has been mostly contained to Ballard and Hopkins Counties in Western Kentucky.  Numerous buildings were damaged or destroyed as high winds and an unconfirmed tornado made its way through Kevil during the six o’clock hour. Ballard County Emergency Management Director Anita Bugg says there were no injuries or fatalities, however damage is extensive.
