Little Shop of Horrors Devours our Studio on Sounds Good

Murray's Playhouse in the Park opens a three weekend run of the rock-horror-musical Little Shop of Horrors this Friday at 7 p.m. Sounds Good welcomes the production's Director (and voice of Audrey II) Stephen Keene and the actor who plays Seymour, Bryant Powell with Kate Lochte. Chris Thile on Receiving the MacArthur Genius Award and Future Plans

Mandolinist, former Murray resident, and Murray State Student, Chris Thile, known for his work in Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, was among those awarded 2012 "genius" grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The 23 fellows will receive $500,000 over the next five years to continue their work or change fields. Tracy Ross spoke with Chris Thile about receiving the award and his plans for the future.

Fired City Clerk Will File Lawsuit Against Murray

Former Murray City Clerk Harla McClure will file a lawsuit against the city for wrongful termination. Attorney Thomas Clay says Mayor Bill Wells declined to reinstate McClure as city clerk. Wells fired McClure in early September on allegations of lying about the theft of a $50 city sticker. McClure denies any dishonesty and says it was a misunderstanding.

Attorney Strengthens Efforts for Jackson Plea Bargain

Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship plans to intensify efforts to reach a plea bargain for Murray State University basketball player Zaveral “Zay” Jackson. Blankenship says he is concerned social media comments about the case have affected the Calloway County jury.

Police allege Jackson struck two people with his car in Murray’s Walmart parking lot Sept. 9. Blankenship says the offer to Jackson will include conditions of jail time, restitution to the victims and anger management.

Jackson Waives Preliminary Hearing, May Negotiate Plea Deal

Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship hopes to work out a plea deal with Murray State University basketball player Zaveral “Zay” Jackson. Jackson faces felony assault charges for allegedly hitting two people with his car during an argument in the Murray Walmart parking lot earlier this month. Blankenship says Jackson has waived his right to preliminary hearing and grand jury consideration.
