Charter School Advocates Hold Rally in Frankfort

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Charter School Advocates took their cause to Frankfort today, holding a rally outside the Capitol. The Black Alliance for Educational Opportunities, or BAEO, has been one of the most vocal charter supporters. Congressional Redistricting Stalls

Frankfort, KY – Talks have broken down over new Congressional redistricting lines, Kentucky lawmakers say.

A conference committee tasked with reach a compromise on new federal districts had no discussions over the weekend or today. And House Speaker Greg Stumbo says both the House and Senate are blaming each other for the lack of progress.

Kentucky Lawmakers Discuss Budget

Frankfort, KY – Most every lawmaker in Frankfort anticipates a very difficult task in molding a two year budget this session. Senators and Representatives are now digesting Governor Beshear's budget suggestions. School Bus Ads Unlikely

Frankfort, KY – A bill to put advertising on the sides of school buses appears to have once again met its death in the Kentucky Senate.

For the second year in a row, the House has overwhelming passed a bill that would allow school districts to sell ads on buses. Proponents of the measure say it could raise up to $10,000 per bus for local school districts.

But the chairman of the Senate Education committee, Republican Senator Ken Winters, says his peers still don't support the measure after killing it quietly last year.

Kentucky Legislative Committee Subpoenas Managed Care Providers

Frankfort, KY – For only the second time in its history, a Kentucky legislative committee will issue subpoenas...This time over Medicaid managed care and locally-owned pharmacies.

The Program Review and Investigations Committee voted today to authorize subpoenas to Kentucky's three new managed care providers over reimbursement rates to independent pharmacies. Passport, based in Louisville, is exempt from the subpoena.
