Paducah's City Commission hears from nuclear plant workers on comp claims

An argument erupted last night at Paducah's city commission meeting between Mayor Bill Paxton and an advocate for nuclear plant workers dealing with rejected workers’ compensation claims.  Gary Vander Boegh represents several former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant employees and often attends commission meetings with his clients. Vander Boegh has them tell their stories at the end of each meeting during the public comment portion. Last night, Paxton told Vander Boegh the city had little power to help the workers receive their claims.

Fountain Avenue Commercial Construction Financial Assistance Program

The Paducah City Commission last night introduced an ordinance creating a commercial construction financial assistance program aimed at improving the city’s Fountain Avenue Neighborhood. The program provides incentives to property owners spending a minimum of $100,000 constructing new commercial buildings. Property owners can receive a five-year, forgivable loan for as much as $20,000. However, the commission limits the program’s total budget to only $40,000.

Paducah’s Henry Clay Park is getting a new name.  City commissioners voted last night to rename the park in honor of former Mayor Albert Jones who served from 1996 until 2000.
