Obion County Tennessee Clerk Volle Boehms says her office has stopped collecting rural fire subscription fees because she thinks it is illegal. In January the county joined seven communities to establish a countywide fire protection service to residents outside town and city limits.

A recent study shows a large percentage of Tennesseans didn't see a doctor over the last decade because they couldn't afford to.

Tennessee has collected $190 million dollars more than budgeted so far this fiscal year. Finance and administration officials say April collections were 9.6 percent over those in April a year ago. Sales tax collections for April recorded their 25th straight month of growth. 

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam's proposal to overhaul the Tennessee Regulatory Authority has passed the House today. The companion bill passed the Senate last week. The two chambers must agree to a technical change before the measure goes to the governor. The TRA regulates utilities in the state. The bill would change the agency from a 4 member, full-time board to a 5 member, part-time board with a full-time executive director. Sponsors say the change will save the state at least $350,000 a year.

Tennessee state tourism officials have launched a new driving tour through eight western counties.  The Screaming Eagle Trail travels 353 miles through Benton, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery and Stewart counties. It’s the 13th of 16 self-guided driving tours in the Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways program.  There are 76 tourism sites along the route, including Fort Campbell, Fort Donelson, and the Loretta Lynn Ranch.

Project executives with the Cates Landing port on the Mississippi River in northwest Tennessee are optimistic that spring flooding will not affect construction.  Work on the multimillion-dollar Lake County riverport has been ongoing since 1999.
