Voters in Princeton and one precinct in Sturgis, in Union County, have decided to go wet. Caldwell County Clerk Toni Watson says the measure allowing liquor-by-the-drink in restaurants and the sale of packaged liquor passed yesterday by nearly 200 votes. Watson says businesses can apply for the proper license after 60 days.  

The 2nd precinct in Sturgis passed a measure to sell wine and beer by just 14 votes. Precincts 1 and 3 chose to remain dry.  Portions of Union County are already wet  so county clerk Trey Peak expects sales in precinct two to begin in about thirty days.

Tennessee's primary election is Thursday. Voters in west Tennessee head to the polls to narrow the field in many state and local races. In the 8th District Congressional Race, incumbent Republican Stephen Fincher's primary opponent is Annette Justice of Memphis. Democrats Wes Bradley of Cottage Grove, Timothy Dixon of Germantown, and Christa Stoscheck of Jackson are seeking their party's nomination. In the Tennessee State House both candidates for the 75th District, republican Tim Wirgau of Buchanan and Democrat Steve Wright of Springville, are unopposed.

Kentucky officials are once again planning to crack down on voter fraud in the May 22 primary.

The Charter County Government Commission have changed a plan for the proposed merger of Paducah and McCracken governments. Vice Chairman Tom Garrett says the changes reflect concerns residents voiced during public forums held earlier in the year. The changes clarify the role of a transitional committee appointed to speed the merger if the plan passes and moves elections for new officials from 2013 to 2014 to avoid a special election. Supporters of legislation to restore voting rights to felons say the offenders have paid their debt to society and should have full suffrage granted automatically.

House Bill 70 is a constitutional amendment that would allow for that restoration, which is currently banned.

The House has already advanced the measure, but like in years past, the bill seems dead on arrival in the state Senate.

That didn't stop members of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth and other groups to rally loudly for an hour in the Capitol Rotunda in support of their bill Thursday.
