Kentucky Students Compete in Career Skills

The 2012 SkillsUSA Kentucky State Conference is under way in Louisville, and today is contest day for hundreds of career and technical education students from across the state.  They’ll compete in areas like automotive technology, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity and welding.  The students are from high schools as well as community and technical colleges. Winners will compete in the national championships in June in Kansas City, Missouri.

Colorful spring unfolds on state website

Kentucky is in full bloom this spring, and the Commonwealth wants to make it easy to find the most colorful spots.  The state Departments of Travel and Parks are sponsoring the Unbridled Spring program again, with a website that includes reports from parks across Kentucky.  The reports are updated weekly, and the agencies say they provide a guide to locations where blooms are most beautiful.  The website is an off-shoot of Kentucky Tourism's site: http://www.kytourismapps.com/seasons .

Hundreds of Students Celebrate Poetry and Tell Journey Stories

WKMS-FM and Murray State University’s Teacher Quality Institute have teamed up for the fifth year of a special project during April, National Poetry Month. WKMS broadcastsPoetry Minutes, short poems by students in western Kentucky public schools, that air at 7:19 a.m. and 4:19 p.m. weekdays through Monday, April 30. Poems will also be posted on the station’s website wkms.org, along with the Journey Stories images that inspired them, so the work of the young writers can be heard any time.
