Lincoln Celebration

By Angela Hatton

Hogdenville, KY – Final preparations are being made in Kentucky and the rest of the country for the commemoration of President Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. Officials plan a large event at Lincoln's Hodgenville, Kentucky birthplace. Larue County Judge Executive Tommy Turner is a member of the state and national Lincoln Bicentennial Commissions. He says even though Lincoln moved to Indiana when he was seven, Kentucky remained with him throughout his life.

"His wife was from Kentucky, his best friend was from Kentucky, his law partners were
from Kentucky and he probably couldn't have won the civil war without Kentucky.
So Kentucky was so important for Lincoln, and this is one thing...I hope we have
enhanced that in our efforts in the bicentennial."

The February 12 celebration in Kentucky includes the release of a new penny depicting Lincoln's birthplace.
