Tim Easton: Prickly Blues, Soft Americana

From his musical beginnings in Ohio to his time busking in the streets of Paris to the stretch he spent making bedroom recordings in Nashville, Tim Easton has displayed a good deal of persistence. He's contributed to several bands and scored films, and is currently focusing on his solo career. Since the release of 1998's Special 20, the roots-rock singer-songwriter has released five more highly acclaimed records, including this year's Porcupine.

With its prickly blues exterior and soft Americana interior, the aptly named Porcupine pulls together the best of both genres and much more. Released in April, the collection of country-tinged songs also visits soulful territory, while held together by Easton's roughed-up vocals.
