Frankfort, KY – Two high-profile Kentucky Senate Republicans will offer separate constitutional amendments on expanded gambling in the 2010 legislative session. We get details from Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh.

--Verbatim--
An amendment to be offered by Senate President David Williams would prevent the expansion of gaming in Kentucky without a vote by the people. And Senator Damon Thayer will offer a constitutional amendment allowing video slots in counties with horse tracks. "It would be run by the Kentucky Lottery. And the most important factor, I believe, is that it would lock in, in the constitution, the amount of money dedicated to the horse industry."

But horse industry leaders who heard presentations from Williams and Thayer appeared unimpressed, as was Governor Beshear. They prefer expanded gaming without a constitutional amendment, like the bill approved by the House in June. The measure later died in Senate committee.
