The bluesy Kansas City mother-son duo Madisen Ward And The Mama Bear is no overnight sensation. After performing around their hometown for five years, Ruth Ward and her son Madisen got a couple of breaks in Nashville, where they played for the annual American Music Conference and performed live in the Blue Room at Jack White's Third Man Records.
The Wards finally got noticed, and now they've released their first full-length album, Skeleton Crew. In this episode of World Cafe, the effervescent duo performs a set recorded live at this year's Non-COMMvention in Philadelphia.
