The Paducah School of Art and Design host a photo contest based on Ron Rash's book Saints at the River as part of WKCTC's annual community read event. Work is also nearly complete on the third phase of their campus expansion. On Sounds Good, Austin Carter speaks with Paul Aho, Dean of PSAD about the contest, the new campus addition and the 5th annual Student and Faculty Holiday Art Sale this weekend.
Photo Contest
The contest follows a tradition started five years ago, focusing on readers response to a book, as part of WKCTC's community-wide read. This year's book is about the conflicts surrounding the death of a young woman on a river and the environmental concerns about efforts to reclaim her body. The book has an an emphasis on the way people divide on issues and how reconciliation and revelation can be found.
The photo contest may make use of the river or environmental relevance, the lives of those living or working on the river. They will accompany an exhibition at the Clemens Fine Arts Center Gallery on January 21, with cash prizes for first, second and third. The author will be at the closing reception for a reading and signing on March 8.

Campus Expansion
The school is completing the third phase of their campus expansion, ready to open in the Spring 2016 semester. The 30,000 square foot facility will house 2D and graphic design with new studios, state of the art equipment for painting, drawing and photography, Aho says.
Holiday Art Sale
The fifth annual Student and Faculty Holiday Art Sale is this weekend. Items include ceramics, photography, painting, drawing, metals, etc. A majority of the sale goes to the artists with a small portion going to support the school's art clubs. Tracy Ross speaks with new Clemens Fine Arts Center Director Brian Heller about this sale.
