The United States’ planned pullout of UNESCO isn’t likely to have any negative ramifications to Paducah and its designation as a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art.
That’s according to Rural Policy Research Institute President Chuck Fluharty who said international politics are behind the decision to leave UNESCO and shouldn’t impact partnerships.
“Places like Paducah and cities around the world continue to benefit from interaction, peer learning, peer support, peer challenge, those issues are really irrelevant to those places.” Fluharty said.
Paducah Mayor Brandi Harless and the city’s convention and visitor’s bureau released a joint statement Friday saying they will continue to work with global partners toward common goals, to foster creative industries for sustainable development.
