Another downtown Murray building at 500 Maple Street is set to be razed following a summer fire.
Murray Building Official Keith Miller says the building’s owner applied for a demolition permit today after discovering foundation problems following the razing of other nearby buildings affected the by the fire. Miller said a damaged wall and recently discovered basement area under the building made the structure unstable and too expensive to fix.
“There were windows down there that had old wooden header lintels above the windows and they were rotten and rolling out. And that wall was cracking. They were afraid it was going to fall down if they tried to do much work around it,” Miller said.
Three adjoined burned buildings have been razed on the corner of 5th and maple since the fire. Miller says he is unaware of any plans for the property where the buildings were demolished.
