Paducah Power System is getting more use out of its “underutilized” peaking plant as the utility aims to bring rates down by July.
PPS Spokeswoman Andrea Underwood says the natural gas fired plant has been used seven times so far this year. PPS uses the plant during high demand and could also sell the generated power.
The utility has hired Ohio-based American Municipal Power as a portfolio manager to better market the plant’s power. They estimate that the A-M-P contract could reduce power costs by $2 million by the end of the fiscal year.
The PPS Board is currently interviewing candidates for a new general manager after Dave Clark stepped down in October.
