Two western Tennessee communities are receiving state Site Development Grants to prepare economic development sites for market.

Union City’s Northwest Tennessee Regional Industrial Center is receiving $450,000 to grade about 15.5 acres to make it pad ready. Obion County Chamber of Commerce CEO Lindsay Frilling says the work will upgrade the property’s value and reduce the construction timeline for interested companies.

“This would reduce the time line by at least 3 months for a company. And most companies nowadays are pushed to be up and running in an 18-24 month period,” Frilling said.

Montgomery County Industrial Development Board’s County Corporate Business Park is receiving about $212,264 dollars to clear 70 acres of trees to make it more accessible.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development says the grants are meant to help rural communities overcome barriers to site certification and prepare them for new business.
