Dr. Matt Williams is a professor of physics and astronomy at Murray State University. He enjoyed his first solar eclipse in 2017 and is looking forward to sharing some of the science behind what causes an eclipse and tips for how to get the most out of this rare opportunity.

The Earth and Environmental Sciences Department cordially invites everyone to our Solar Eclipse Celebration! Set to take place on Monday, April 8th, from 12-3 in the Breezeway of Blackburn Science Building, this event welcomes students, faculty, and staff to witness the cosmic wonder of a solar eclipse. With our campus perfectly positioned to witness an impressive 98% totality, attendees will have a unique opportunity to safely observe this rare celestial spectacle using specially provided solar eclipse glasses. Alongside the eclipse viewing, participants can anticipate a variety of engaging activities and games that will foster community camaraderie and connection. Complimentary food and drinks will be provided. In the event of inclement weather the celebration will be moved indoors to Blackburn 320. We invite you to join as we gather to celebrate and deepen our understanding of the natural world at the EES Solar Eclipse Celebration!
