Christian Co. Sheriff's Office Identifies Body Found in Wood Line

Update: Investigators have determined the victim is 29-year-old Desmond Lamar Leavell of Hopkinsville. 

According to a release Monday evening, the determination was made following an autopsy in Madisonville. Police say Leavell died of a gunshot wound and are calling the incident 'murder.' They ask anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office at 270-890-1300 and ask for Detective Lieutenant Scott Noisworthy.  

Family members reported Leavell missing on June 15. He was found by a passerby in a line of woods off Deason Road on the evening of June 16.

A death investigation is underway after a body was found in western Kentucky this weekend.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, a body was discovered Sunday evening on Deason Road in Hopkinsville.

Deputy Coroner Zach Lamb pronounced the victim dead. Officials say it’s unclear how long the victim was at the location. No arrests have been made.
