Students attending any of Kentucky’s community and technical colleges will see an increase in tuition next school year. The KCTCS has approved a 3.7 percent tuition increase and staff raises.
In-state students will now pay $140 dollars per credit hour, which is five dollars more than before. For students attending a KCTCS school from a county contiguous to Kentucky that amount doubles.
The Council on Postsecondary education set the cap on tuition hikes for the state’s community and technical schools at four percent earlier this year.
The KCTCS board also granted a 2.5 percent raise for full-time staff that meet or exceed their job requirements.
KCTCS president Michael McCall says the board has been conservative with its previous budgets to allow for raises.
“We’ve done a number of things and basically we’ve reallocated internal resources to be able to give our employees a 2.5 percent increase.”
McCall says the number of students attending the 16 colleges and 68 campuses around the commonwealth continues to increase.
