Union County Tops State Library Attendance

The Union County public library has achieved a No. 1 ranking in attendance for its children's program. The ranking is based on a statistical report of the state's 119 public libraries for the 2011-12 state fiscal year.

The report shows children's program attendance per capita at the Union County public library is 1.91, while the statewide average is 0.29. The number represents the children's program attendance in Union County, divided by the county population.

Union County library director Debbie McClanahan says the library expanded a story hour session to a parent-child interactive session, which included not only reading but music, movement, finger play and crafts.

The library also hosted a Prime Time Family Reading Time program.
