The Kentucky Board of Education conducted its first review Wednesday of applicants looking to become the next commissioner of education.
After a closed session, the board voted to ask the search firm for additional information on 15 candidates from in-state and out of state. The first interviews for the post will be conducted in Louisville August 14-15 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The board also named Kevin C. Brown, an associate commissioner and legal counsel for the board, as interim commissioner of education. Brown will take over next month after current commissioner Terry Holliday retires August 31.
