Christian County Public Schools will receive a $1 million grant over the next five years from the Department of Defense Education Activity.
The grant is aimed at improving the academic performance of military-connected students in math and science. Target schools for the grant will include South Christian, Pembroke, Millbrooke and Christian County Middle School.
To be eligible for this kind of grant, schools must have student population that is between 15 and 25 percent active military-connected. But the added programs will serve all students at the schools.
“We are truly grateful for yet another opportunity to partner with DoDEA and to strengthen our family-school-community relationships," said superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill in a news release. "In addition to the support that will be given to both students and staff, it will also provide our community with engaging science and math activities which are of high interest to students and also have real world applications.”
