Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton and the Kentucky Commission on Women joined a national effort to increase the number of women in STEM education Wednesday.
Hampton serves as Honorary Chair for Million Women Mentors Initiative in Kentucky. Mentors are required to teach a girl or woman in STEM for at least 20 hours a year. In a news release, Hampton said NASA was an inspiration in her childhood to eventually pursue a degree in industrial engineering.
"With NASA playing an inspirational role in my childhood and holding a degree in industrial engineering, I know firsthand the powerful opportunities STEM can offer women," says Hampton.
The initiative includes over 60 partners including The Girl Scouts of America and U.S. News. According to www.millionwomenmentors.org, more than 30 million girls and women are involved.
