McCracken County Public Schools is preparing their application for the second round of Work Ready Skills Initiative funding this spring.
The program aims to give $34 million to programs that build up a highly trained workforce. Grant writer Genevieve Postlethwait wrote the grant for McCracken County.
She said the $8.25 million dollar request will go towards a ‘McCracken County Skills Center’ to house welding, carpentry and health sciences programs. Classes would be available to middle and high school students and adults.
The Kentucky Education Workforce and Development Cabinet awarded $65 million in a round of funding last fall. Some $8.3 million of that went to the west Kentucky region.
