A new report shows most Kentucky graduates went to college but didn’t finish a degree seven years after they left high school.
Kentucky Center For Statistics reports that even though more than half of the 2010 high school graduates went to college, only around 11,000 of them got a degree.
The report measured the outcomes of more than 42,000 Kentucky graduates in 2017.
More than 9,000 now hold a Bachelor's degree or higher, while nearly 1,500 went on to get a postsecondary certificate or diploma.
The more than 18,000 graduates that had some college experience made an average of $2,500 less a year than those who went on to get certificates. Those who had Bachelor’s degrees or higher had a median salary of nearly $33,000.
The report also divides the findings into demographics. Female graduates on average earned more degrees than their male counterparts. Students who didn’t participate in the free or reduced lunch program earned more than twice the amount of college degrees than students who did participate.
